What the hell, Marvel fandom. I've been obsessing over the fics, but the number of Natasha-bashing fics i've come across boggles my mind.

Also, the few fics where Bucky is still brainwashed and he and Steve have sex in that mode and the author doesn't warn or mention that things will be that way at all bugs me. Really not looking for dubcon portrayed as consensual.

?? Why would anyone bash Natasha? I mean, what has she even done that could be used to make her unlikeable??

Three different fics decided to portray her as hating Bucky more than anyone else and portraying her feelings as a bad thing. It was really strange.

Oh, the Winter Soldier stuff. She probably gets in the way of the main ship and what not. *defeated sigh*

And here I was thinking that the Avengers are almost impossible to bash...

The Avengers are pretty easy to bash actually.

Dare to be female.

I have seen a TON of people that hate Natasha. I don't get it at all.

Simple. She's a female that gets in the way of the slash ships.

But, like...just pair her with one of the innumerable other dudes. Or Pepper. Or Maria. OR NOONE.

Because character bashing is apparently easier than actually making her (or any female) a person with many choices in terms of relationships or lack thereof.

Apparently character bashing is much easier than leaving them out of the story altogether. Never understood why they just don't leave a character they hate out of their fic.

Well that too.

There's been a ton of stuff on f!s about whether she's boring/pointless or not. idgi either, I think she's great, but lots of people don't like her.

You have to wonder if they don't like the character or of some are transferring their ScarJo hate to the character.

I'm sure it's true for some. I'm sure some people have legit reasons not to like her, too. I just don't get why there's so much hate. So yeah, that might be a big reason...

That's annoying. I love dubcon, but only when it's portrayed as fucked up. Otherwise it hits all my "nope. nope nope nope nope" buttons.

I kind of dread the day when I stumble across a dub con/non-con fanfic where it is NOT portrayed as fucked up. My fandoms are so nice when it comes to this I haven't had an opportunity to see an example of this trope as of yet.

My favorite ships tend to be hero/villain ships and I always have the hardest time finding fics that aren't either:

1) Villain rapes the hero. Angst and tears ensue. Rape scene only there to set up hurt/comfort for different pairing.
2) Villain rapes the hero. Hero enjoys it and they instantly fall in love.
3) VILLAIN AND HERO SUDDENLY FALL FOR EACH OTHER AND PROCEED TO SUPER HAPPY FLUFF TIMES!!!! :D ~*~*~*

3) is the worst. I get the appeal, but my brain breaks a little every time I see it.

Dare I ask for some examples of 2)? I do find myself experiencing a sort of morbid curiosity.

However, the author and at least ONE of the characters involved realizes that the situation is pretty shady and bizarre, so I don't know if it fits - being self-aware, and all.

Yes, this sounds really self-aware. Though still creepy.

This makes me sad. I've managed to avoid it so far and mostly see positive portrayals of Nat, but I guess there will always be haters.
