It's not pretentious since it's probably true for you. It is however narrow-minded as you seem to assume everyone experiences this medium the exact same way and therefore must do what you do to get all that they can out of a game. In those games I mentioned, actually playing gave me nothing substantial and I really wish I'd just watched an LP instead. I'd gotten everything I could out of the game just by following the story, and gameplay added precisely nothing. If I'd seen an LP beforehand, I would have known that and not wasted my time and money, but still be left with an enjoyable story to think about.

We were discussing narrow-minded and pretentiousness in regards to opinions about the general video game experience, not within someone's personal approach. So that would have been relevant if, say, I had also insisted that everyone else is missing out by not watching LPs -- by which I mean, this assumption of mine would be narrow-minded. But I was talking about your assumption regarding other people's behavior, and you tried to make this about my own experience: in no way a valid comparison.

I can see you want to win this argument but all you keep doing is insisting that other people are enjoying their gaming experience the wrong way, as if you know someone else's sense of fun better than they do, when in fact all you're basing that conclusion on is your own experience. If someone tells you, "I have more fun watching an LP," then they're likely more or less correct about it. It's their fun, after all.

If you'd just asked the OP's opinion about the interactive portion of the game then that would have been putting out an alternative, but alas you just had to toss in that bit on your vague sadness about... a stranger doing something in no way morally wrong or having any effect on your life whatsoever. So I will amend my earlier statement: that was at least a little pretentious.

...okay, you have to know how that sounds to other people. I would just be a little annoyed by the waste of food, but in that case it is a (minor) moral issue. In truth we're both judging that person, except you deny it and couch it in your "sadness". Come on, when someone says, "Your behavior makes me sad," there is no way that wouldn't be taken as, "What you're doing is wrong."

Oh my god. If someone actually buys all of what you just said, I've got a great deal on the Brooklyn Bridge they should hear about.

And I think it's weird that even after I had stated that I'd have rather watched an LP in situations when I had experienced awful gameplay, you still couldn't accept it for the exception that it is and still insisted that since you could power through your frustration with a bad game to enjoy the story, there's no reason I couldn't do the same and therefore I must not think playing a game is important. If I really thought that, why would I have started out by saying "I've played games..."

So all this selective awareness, on top of your determination to appear nonchalant about the argument while doing everything opposite of said goal, makes it hard for me believe much of what you say. I mean, the part about always prioritizing gameplay I do believe, but I think I've already said that. Everything else? Ha! Sorry, this is the first conversation I've had with you but I'm beginning to see why you keep getting trolled.

Forget JLaw in American Hustle, you are the Picasso of passive-aggressive karate. Forget that you capped your SH2 story with an assertion that not prioritizing gameplay is just sooooo weird (implying at the same time that this is what I believe, while cutting out the caveat about the gameplay being sometimes bad), that was a purely explanatory answer! Forget that you later asserted that it was in fact narrow-minded for a person to rely on an LPer's perspective, that's not at all judgmental or disapproving!. Let's casually not mention that you brought up the salad, and then kept talking about it. You feel so alone in this thread (when you in fact are not alone?). The OP's decision to not play a game they're interested has given you ennui!

I should screencap this, to be honest. It is a rare jewel of ridiculousness and a study in deflection kungfu.

I believe I've just found it. Most conversations on this community tend to be dull as dirt, but this, this is something different.

To remember you by, mostly. I didn't believe the hype before, but I was so wrong!
