You've just helped me explain my issue with how so many RPGs handle stories. I honestly don't think there's a difference between the experience of playing Final Fantasy IV's narrative sections and the experience of reading them, and while that's improved a lot in more recent games, I still don't often feel that playing the game is sufficiently different from reading the game to justify my purchase. (For reference, I think Dragon Age 2 is a game you can't just read, because the player is given different but equally meaningful ways to interact with party members.)
