As we have seen in this thread with all the "Well you just ARE NOT MEANT to understand ~God's Plan~ because our minds ARE JUST TOO SMALL so just shut up and go with it!!"

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I think it's an atheist troll, trying to get what they want out of the thread. I.e., none of us are going to say what s/h/it already has a predetermined script for, so they'll say it themselves, and then point to their own comment as "look what a bad Christian HURRRR!"

...yeah so I'm kinda paranoid.

The "can't understand God's plan"? Some named users have been putting that forward.

That belief (or a variant of it, not the kind you're talking about) actually forms a core part of my own religious tradition. But I would sooner chew a mouthful of broken glass, than say it un-anon or IRL. And I can't recall any named user saying anything like that...if they did, it would stick in my mind, because I, personally, believe something similar.

Believing that being born under a certain sun sign shapes up your core personality is also a "valid and well-documented" belief. Even more nacient than Christianity...

Doesn't make it any less bogus.

...Don't compare racism, homophobia, transphobia and sexism to someone on the internet telling you that God doesn't exist.

The idea is that people are very open to and accepting of who you are, unless who you are happens to involve a theistic belief.

No, there is no systematic persecution of theists by atheists in the real world, so in that sense there is no comparison. But that does not mean that it is okay to treat theists poorly.

(By the way, I don't think saying, "I don't believe in god and here's why" counts as treating someone poorly)

Agreed. I hate how it's seen as acceptable to call people blind/stupid/ignorant/bigoted just for believing in God, especially when fandom likes to think of itself as being so open and tolerant. :(

Actually I'm not self-conscious, and I'm not afraid of people's reactions; it is part of my religious tradition that only God can open someone's mind to belief/understanding (or a dim glimpse of that understanding, in this life), and that we may actively do someone serious, irrevocable spiritual harm, by trying to forcibly "convert" them in a human way/through human rationalization.

This isn't just out of left field, it is based on what Jesus says to the Pharisees, and this is also why He spoke in parables, lest people turn, and be healed, and then turn away from God again, and be lost forever.

I am paraphrasing very very very badly here, LOL. If it wasn't so late RN, I would look up the actual verses.

I am like 85% certain that was sarcasm.

Um, this was said by named Christian users...

I giggled at your choice of pronoun smushing. I don't think that's how to accomplish that lol.

Eh, I've seen that used before. I confess, the less-charitable part of my human nature meant *exactly* what it accomplished, by the by. ;-)
