podcasts and audiobooks. it has the mind-filling-the-blanks aspect of books, and, if the actor is good, a creepy, hypnotizing voice giving life to the words.

unfortunately, not a lot, besides the nosleep podcast kaijinscendre recced above. there's also welcome to night vale, which, while humorous most of the time, plays the creepiness completely straight at times. as for audiobooks, there's stephen king's 'the almagamation polka' narrated by the wonderful michael emerson, whose voice fits the creepy monotone trope to a t (it also has a very unique lilt to it, but i'm not gonna go into details because once i start talking about his voice i can go on for hours).
