Sorry, but I have to disagree. The cases have all become "how can we gross out the audience the most this week" instead of being intriguing like they used to be. There is no consistent follow-up on storyline because they're too focused on the gotchas of the premiere, finale, and sweeps episodes. Characters go to waste (Cruz, etc) and characters are killed off for no good reason (Strauss).

Compare the Replicator storyline to ANY of the big bads previously and it was just awful. The sad thing is that they really had any number of places that they could have gone with it and it would have been outstanding.

The writers seem to want to 1. write horror films and 2. toy with shippers. There is little substance elsewhere.

It sucks because I still adore the characters that are left, but that's more do to the actors.

I will say that the current writers do well in one area and that's writing team building scenes. I much prefer the ones over the last few seasons than the ones beforehand.
