Please do download it instead of paying good money to see it in theaters. I hope it flops hard so Disney can learn to stay the fuck away from the animated classics.

Isn't someone an edgy little shit.

But

(Anonymous) 2014-04-21 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
But they could also use it as an excuse to not do more movies with female leads...

Disney has never minded doing female leads.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-21 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever, I'm going to watch it just for the big damn forest dragon thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-21 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a little "meh' about the movie at first. But then I saw the theatrical trailer and saw Maleficent with wings and I thought it was so fucking cool that I'm actually looking forward to it :)

How dare they mess with the complex, meaningful narrative that is Sleeping Beauty

? You can easily mess up beloved characters, the things that make them work. People never liked Maleficent for being tragic or anything. They liked her for being over-the-top and evil.

Now, I don't believe in remakes or adaptations ruining the source material, but I don't like when they seem to not understand what made the original great.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-21 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Why the hell? Disney already has butchered the original Sleeping Beauty story...

(Anonymous) 2014-04-21 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
what, you're disappointed because they didn't include the sleep-rape or the eyes getting scratched out by thornbushes?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-21 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No? Just saying that it's so far off the original that already that being all purist about the new adaption is silly.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
If even half the spoilers are true then there are going to be more differences between either Disney's Sleeping Beauty or the original tale and the Maleficent movie than there are between 1959's Sleeping Beauty and the original tale.
And these differences are not good or interesting, as it's mostly turning everyone's personality around.

Oh, hi, Logical Fallacies Anon. Haven't seen you in a bit?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
...huh? I'm not any logical fallacies anon, I'm actually ibbity who didn't bother to sign in today. I just took the wrong meaning from the oc's comment and thought they were miffed specifically that the cartoon prettified the story (though what else one can expect from Disney, especially in the 50s, I really don't know.)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
This is completely ridiculous. The classic wasn't even the first re-adaptation of an original from hundreds of years ago. Why are people so addicted to stifling creativity? Stifling new ideas?

Haven't you ever heard that no story is original? There's *nothing* wrong with adapting a story, we've been doing it for most of our thinking history.

If you don't want the "classic" to be marred, then don't watch the alterations! Your favorite version will be safe if you don't watch it. But goddamn, don't have a tantrum because someone else wants to play in the sandbox. It's not your sandbox!
