I hate everything this movie chooses to be.

If the leaked script is real, this will be like one of those fanfics that turn the villain into a misunderstood woobie and make everybody else bad guys and completely OOC.

And doing this to Maleficent, of all Disney villains.

To me, it would make sense if they went that route with Ursula; if they went back and made her Triton's sister like she was originally supposed to be. Because then it would be all about how Ursula was just trying to take what she believed to be rightfully hers after being banished (possibly unfairly) by her brother.

Not saying I'd want it, just that I could see it making sense in that case rather than with Maleficent.

Ursula would make more sense, IA.

Heck, I think almost any villain would make more sense than Maleficent. She's a fae, getting petty over not being invited to a party makes perfect sense.

Turning her into a woman scorned with a hidden heart of gold, while shitting over the good fairies, is stupid.

I couldn't believe what they did to the three fairies tbh. That's not even giving them a backstory, they just rewrote them into giggly fools so Malificent can play mother and ???

And it sucks because they were awesome. When was the last time we had middle aged women drive the plot and save the day in a Disney movie?

Exactly. When I was a child, I wanted them to be my aunts and it... sort of hurt on a "personal" level? Much more than anything else in the script tbh and the rest was awful enough.

Same. I could even forgive them making Maleficent a woman scorned but I fucking loved the fairies. I used to pretend I was them sewing and making crappy cakes when I was a kid :(

Oh, so much this. They were the protagonists of the movie, dangit. Three slightly goofy older ladies kicking butt and baking cakes.
