>saying that you enjoy the adaptation more than the original? Heresy!

Nope.

>saying that you won't read the original because you think it's bound to be worse than the adaptation? Stupidity!

Yeah.

+1. At least give it a try, OP

Yeah I think anyone claiming that the adaptation is an improvement over the books has a shakier perch after last week.

Another "yep" to this comment. Not trying something because you're afraid you won't like it and not liking it is the WORST thing that can happen as a result of you trying it... geez, OP. It's not a huge life changing, high risk decision like "Should I skydive without my back-up chute?"

The books are much more detailed and complex than the series, with far more nuance and backstory. If you hate them, you hate them, and you won't have lost anything.

Yep. +1000

i knew exactly this would happen.

lots of people telling themselves i must not have tried the books because they can't fathom anyone could ever not prefer them.

Because that's what you wrote, OP. When you say "I don't want to read the books" and "I don't think they can do her justice" (not "I saw that they don't do her justice", but "I don't THINK they can"), everyone naturally assumes that you haven't in fact read the original.

I'm not a fan of either the books or the series. I think both kind of suck. So I have no dog in this fight.
