Well if the 90s and earlier cartoons have anything over today's modern cartoons, I personally think that those cartoons mostly had more interesting/catchy theme songs, they also feel like they had a bit more heart in them when the singers sang the songs. That isn't to say that modern cartoon theme songs suck, but I honestly feel that at least for the ones with lyrics, they lost that heart their predecessors had.
