I, too, watched Doom for an actor (Dwayne Johnson) and found it really enjoyable.

I also picked up the first Dragon Age long, long after it was released, because I needed a BioWare fix after Mass Effect 2. I didn't think I'd like it, I'm not usually big on swords-n-sorcery games, but I LOVED IT. I must have played it through 3 or 4 times.

Dwayne Johnson cracks me up. He always looks like he is trying to be super tough but I just want to hug him and let me cart me around places.

Is Dragon Age as epically long as I hear Mass Effect is?

It isn't...yet. But DA3 is coming out shortly, and they don't look like they're slowing down (ME was conceived and delivered as a trilogy), so it'll probably be even longer than ME was. That said, 2 lost a ton of the epic-ness of the first one. It was fun enough to play (at least the first 2/3rds or so) but the story didn't really compare to the first DA or any of the ME games.
