I really want a tattoo. Yeah, this isn't much of a secret, sorry. I just really, really want one. I don't even particularly care what. In fact, I want a sleeve. They just look so cool.

Ugh, I am going to end up with negative money this year, I can't afford anything. And next year is not going to be much better, and then I'll be graduated and trying to set up my own business. The near future looks bleak and inkless.

i feel you anon. ive wanted one for a long time but idk what to get. i feel like i need to pick something ~meaningful or be judged to hell so none for me yet.

Well, you should at least make sure you really really want it forever before you get it. It's at least more likely that you won't want it removed eventually if you get something that has meaning to you.

It's not judging, it's trying to prevent you from getting something fucking stupid that you will regret later.

Also they need to keep in mind that nearly all professional jobs won't hire someone with visible tattoos, so either be prepared to work retail for the rest of your life or wear long sleeves in the middle of the summer.

(My mother works in a school, and they actually fired someone for getting a visible tattoo because it was against the appearance policy there and very clearly stated as such.)

I kind of feel the same way, but my idea of meaningful will not be everyone else's. I want a pack of trilobites crawling up my arm and shoulder. Mother and Father would not see the beauty there, I fear!

So long as it's meaningful to *you* - even the most banal nautical star has *some* meaning to the person getting it.

Sure, some people might judge but, you know - fuck 'em. It's your skin, your tattoo.

My tattoos have no meaning whatsoever, they're just aesthetically pretty and I've never regretted them for an instant. I don't need a "message" on my body. If it feels important to someone to have a tattoo with a story behind it, then obviously that's their personal decision and that's fine, but I feel like tattoos are just another form of decoration, like makeup or jewelry, only more permanent. I just want it to look nice, that's all.

You seem to have a similar philosophy as me. I plan to get some sort of biomechanical shoulder tatt some day, and the most meaning it would have is that I like sci-fi/alien/robot sort of stuff, haha.

I've wanted a tattoo of one particular thing for at least four years now and the only reason I haven't gone for it is that after almost passing out after having my ears pierced, I just don't think it's a good idea for me.
