Re: Fanon Discontinuity

Frozen Teardrop. Just Frozen Teadrop.

Even though it's debatable if it's canon or not, I'd still rather it didn't exist. It has some nice art though. With the possible exception of Odin Lowe being Heero's father, since I kinda like the idea, I disregard everything about this series being canon in any way. It's just absolute garbage.

so are you telling me I shouldn't go back and read it when I'm feeling nostalgic for Gundam W?

That's exactly what I'm telling you. It's not even in the so bad it's good category, it's just plain bad. Gundam Wing had a lot of faults, but it was still enjoyable. Frozen Teardop, not so much. The only thing it has going for it is the art.

You'd be better off reading fanfiction or rewatching the show if you're feeling nostalgic for Gundam Wing.

disappointing :( I wasn't ever too gung-ho about it though since shipping was a big part of why I enjoyed GW and Quatre has a daughter in this one, right? So I'd rather pretend they didn't sink 3x4

They haven't exactly sunk 3x4 but it really isn't canon either. The character you're talking about is his sister.

And like I said, it's debatable if Frozen Teardrop could be considered canon at all. There's a possibility and for that, I wish it didn't exist.

I kind of liked it because 6x9 was one of my favourite ships. They did seem to go out of their way to break up 1x2 as much as possible.

I don't see how they went out of their way to break up 1x2. It was pretty obvious that Duo and Hilde would get together. Plus, Duo Jr is basically a clone of the original so there's that. God, Frozen Teardrop is terrible. Clones everywhere and a terrible soap opera plot.

To people who watched the show, it was pretty obvious that Duo and Hilde would get together. It wasn't so obvious to the fans. 1x2 was a really popular ship in Japan - there were so many doujinshi.

I'm aware of how popular the pairing was and to an extent still is, but anyone without their shipping goggles permanently screwed on would have realized that 1x2 would never be canon. Especially if they watched the show.

I'm still not seeing how they went how their way to break it up?

Unsexy age difference.

I'm not really seeing that as going out of their way to break it up though. I mean, there's Duo Jr who is basically a clone of the original. I think my problem with saying that though, is that implies that the writer conciously wrote it that way to break up a popular yaoi ship, which I don't really buy. The show and most of the staff were pretty obviously going for Heero/Relena from the start.

AYRT again

Ack, I apologize if my last comment came across as a bit angry? I'unno, the tone seemed a bit much to me. Anyway, I'm pretty sure quite a lot of the Japanese fans who produced doujinshi watched the show. If you were talking about western fans who never bothered with the show and just jumped into the fandom, of which there were many, I'd understand.

I mentioned Japanese fandom because sometimes different characters or pairings are popular in Japan.

Oh, I see. I apologize then. It seemed a bit odd to bring up especially since I imagine most of the fans who produced doujinshi would have watched the show or at least been familar with it. So 1x2 not becoming canon wouldn't be much of a shock for them.

How is 1x2 broken up? there was hardly anything there to begin with. Heero barely tolerated Duo as was.

the art books were the only thing that really supported 1x2. Heero was more comfortable around Trowa and Quatre.

Re: Fanon Discontinuity

(Anonymous) 2014-04-24 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
This, oh so much. They didn't spend a lot of time in the series together and there was absolutely nothing between them when they did. Heero just seemed to barely tolerate him, at least at first, but they never really did anything that hinted at being anything other than friends. Seriously, Duo even supports Heero/Relena getting together. It's like people didn't even watch the series.

Those magazine scans were blatant pandering and that's it. The show itself never pandered or supported the ship. It kinda surprises me that Trowa/Heero never really took off. They had such a great camaradaerie.
