no-black-characters-in-smut-ever thing

This is a thing? What the story with this one?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not literally a thing, but there is a definite tendency for black characters who would seem to be obvious slashbait to... not be. (e.g. why isn't there more Shawn/Gus, why isn't there more Tony/Rhodey, etc.)

I'm still baffled and annoyed at Turk/JD's relative nonexistence in fandom.

DA

Ditto. I'm even more annoyed by the lack of Wes/Gunn and by extension the lack of Wes/Gunn/Cordelian in the Angel fandom. That entire second season was full of chemistry between all three of them, particularly Wes/Gunn.

I'm late, but me too! When I first started watching the show a couple seasons in, I figured there had to be a toooooon of fic for them. But no, it's all JD/Cox. I remember a couple people said it's because JD/Turk is already so blatant in canon that there's no reason for fic but since when is that a reason?

This so much. (I'm not actually into that fandom, or fanfic for that matter. But I always assumed this would be THE go-to pairing...)

"fun" fact - for a while after IM 1, there were more tony/JARVIS stories over at AO3 than tony/rhodey.

Because if you make the black guy the bottom you are somehow demeaning him and if you use him as the top you can be accused of buying into a stereotype of aggressive black men. (paraphrased)
- I saw this on tumblr.

Then I guess he's a switch!
