If it was the same as the performance I saw, then yes, they acknowledged the audience.

Huh, interesting. Are we talking SPN-level meta, or something milder?

I'm not sure how SPN does it, but they did a bit that was like "Imagine you're sitting in a theater. Of course, you and I both know you're at home listening to your radio right now, but just imagine..." That sort of thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't seem that bad.

I'm not saying it was. I'm just saying it would be considered breaking the fourth wall.

That sounds pretty tame, but maybe the rest is more direct.

I hope they release a recording soon. (Soon being 'not six months from now'.)

(However, it sucks that OP didn't like it. Different strokes and all that.)

It's a fairly long sequence, and there's some audience participation involved. I thought it was a pretty neat way to use the fact that it was a live performance as part of the story, but yeah, it was a bit fourth-wall-breaking.

Ooo, I didn't realize there was audience participation. I can see why that might throw some people off, but I'm just curious as to how it fits into the episode. And wasn't this the '2 year anniversary' live show, or something? I suppose they thought it was fitting to involve the fans; that's pretty cool.

It wasn't the 2-year anniversary (I think that's a one-time-only performance that's coming up?), it was "The Librarian," the story that they used for their March tour. Basically part of the episode takes place in a theater, with Cecil describing what's going on for the ostensible listeners at home, and the audience takes cues from what Cecil's describing and acts accordingly. It was pretty much just some screaming and interacting with other audience members.

Ooo, alright. I haven't heard about this episode before, but now I'm intrigued. I've always wanted to know more about the Librarians! (Uh, that IS what it's about, right? Or is it about a specific librarian that's unrelated to...well, the librarians? Either way I want it now!)

It was pretty much just some screaming and interacting with other audience members.

That sounds incredibly amusing.

That actually seems pretty cool!
