I'm not sure that's how "fourth wall" is usually used, though, unless you mean they acknowledged the studio audience during the performance? I think you might mean "suspension of disbelief" or "verisimilitude".

Well, now there is a reason they were paired up so much. When Thor came out, Clint and Coulson were the two leftover characters. So, that is one reason they were paired (like Sam and Gabriel). They also had some witty banter, which is another reason. Also, Coulson seems to be Clint's handler, which some people probably enjoy.
