I saw a couple people on Tumblr theorizing that the polar vortex was just a case of really aggressive viral marketing for the movie.

Not the commercials. Almost everyone I know saw it because "Oh god, that new Disney movies looks horrible. 'No-man' saving the day? Really? No way I'm seeing a stinker like that" "No! It's nothing like the commercials, I promise." "Oh wow! That was actually a good movie!"

Though I did see someone try to claim the commercials were bad and misleading on purpose to get everyone's expectations so low that anything that wasn't utter crap would be a happy surprise.

Personally I think releasing the Let it Go video was a brilliant move.
