Who are people you think are cool and can do little wrong?

There are a couple but I wouldn't want to name them so jackoffs could come in and list off all their flaws.

Re: Idols

Yep, me too. If I think a writer is terrific, I don't need some twit saying that they once said something critical of feminism therefore they're an MRA neckbeard loser, or that they practice karate therefore they're appropriating Japanese culture, or whatever. Because then I'll want to argue the point, and at that point I'll have punched the tarbaby.

No one, they always kill any goodwill I have towards them in the end. Usually takes between 2 and 9 months.

I've had people like that before but, naturally, they always ended up disappointing me. I hope I've grown up and know better now. It's certainly more fun loving people without ignoring their flaws.

Re: Idols

I wish I could do that.
It's not that I ignore their flaws or stupid comments, it's that what they flaw'd at (bear with me) is unforgivable in my eyes. So it's simply easier for me to not like or stan for anyone. But it's kind of a downer to not be excited for anyone anymore.

/inbox essay.

Dang, you guys are negative nellys.

Or have a different definition of idol than me.

Re: Idols

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they defined it as 'do little wrong' and every living person I've met has done more that a little wrong in their lives, even if they make amends.

OP did kinda define it in a way that would make it hard for anyone who's not an actual saint to meet the criteria

I try to not have idols because I don't want to put people on a pedestal and then be disappointed.

Re: Idols

Absolutely no one. Everyone I have admired has done something that made me very unhappy at some point, or at least that made me go "Could you BE any more pretentious?"

...

Well, except Richard Shindell, I guess. The only thing he's done that made me unhappy was being so awesome that I get all tongue-tied when I try to talk to him after shows and wind up saying stupid things and hating myself for days. :P

He's not an idol, though - just an excellent musician with political and philosophical and social views that are very much in line with my own.
