Same. I'm rather introverted. I don't wear my thoughts on my sleeve; my face's default setting is 'neutral' (which most people seem to mistake for sad, bored, or mad), and I don't visibly/verbally react to things I'm watching while I'm watching them. I actually find reactions while watching shows or movies to be distracting to my enjoyment of it, so I prefer watching them alone. Or with people I know don't tend to get dramatic while watching :p.

I seem to have trained myself to look happy after getting tired of people asking me what's wrong because apparently my neutral face also looked sad.

Yeah I can fake it pretty good when talking with clients at work. All my coworkers and friends/family know me well enough to know my neutral face is just that, my neutral face.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that a common "introverted" thing? I'd say I'm pretty introverted myself and I'm constantly afraid my face shows too much.

I wouldn't know if it's common, that's just what I attribute it to in myself.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but I'm not introverted and don't usually emote watching things.

I was thinking it might be a separate thing - you don't tend to emote much. My close introverted friends emote a ton. Maybe not as much as I do (though I'm not sure?) but I do tend to be kinda over-the-top - I have the opposite problem from OP; I need to rein it in sometimes.

i could have written this secret. it's very awkward watching tv with my parents because they're the type to get emotional about shows (and not always the best shows). they're tearing up and i'm like 'yeah, that was pretty sad". thankfully, i don't care for most of the shows they watch. i mean, who cries at ncis?

"i mean, who cries at ncis"

I did once - that ep with the little blind girl who was the musical prodigy, but then I'm a pile of mush in general.

me. I cry at NCIS. But I also cry while watching Adventure Time and mother's Day commercials. LOL

Resting Bitch Face strikes again. It's not just you.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
My dad is like that. We'll watch an entire comedy together where I'm laughing my ass off, but he only laughs once or twice. At the end of the movie, we both agree it was really funny. People enjoy things differently. Some people keep them on the inside while others can't help being expressive. I'm sorry you feel uncomfortable about it. There's nothing wrong with the way you react and you should be able to enjoy movies/TV at home without people questioning your interest level.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I'm sorry people are annoying about it, OP. I don't emote either but I never have any problems watching with friends. Well, they do tease me about not crying, saying I don't have a heart, but it's a playful thing. I feel a bit uncomfortable watching comedies sometimes because I don't laugh but I can't remember anyone actually pestering me about it.

Hopefully you know/can meet people who understand this about you and don't pester you about it, OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I have been told this with games, OP. I was playing at school the other day and someone just asked me "Why are you even playing anyway. You look bored," despite me enjoying every second of it. You probably should've watched together with friends that don't care about, or as absorbed onto it as you so much they don't move an inch. I'm much more expressive with movies than video games, but one of my friend is the same case with you.

I'm basically the inverse of you. I have strong reactions to video games--usually involving swearing during a challenging level, and a WHOOHOO of accomplishment--but I have the "Resting Bitchface" (thank [personal profile] dancing_clown for the term) when watching a movie/tv show.

I cry over stuff, but almost never laugh out loud during comedies, even when I think they're hilarious. I absolutely loved The Grand Budapest Hotel, but the friends I was with thought I was bored.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite. I prefer to watch things alone because if I cry or have reactions I somehow find it embarrassing and I want to do that alone.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah me too. I get super embarrassed when I get emotional in a movie so I usually watch stuff by myself or with my close friend who doesn't care if I care.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I meant to say cry... Cause I cry a lot in movies. :/ It's embarrassing.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't emote much, but my friends tell me it's because I'm Scandinavian. I get a million "Are you alright?" while watching movies and series and stuff because they think it's scary that I don't outwardly show how I'm feeling. I guess that's just because they've never seen me watch Lilo & Stitch.

I am, over all, very unemotional about a lot of things.

Some disaster happens somewhere? I'm like: :| Oh, that's not good.

Something good happens? I'm like: :| Oh, that's nice.

For a while my mother would rib me about it. I think she took my diagnosis of mild Aspergers as a good reason for it.
