I fundamentally believe that Japanese people do not get to decide whether it's racist. It is racist or it isn't.

It's stupid to just ignore something like that when you're trying to determine whether something is racist, and I think this specific incident is a lot closer to tasteless than to racist. But I don't think something gets a free pass because one group or another thinks it's okay. It's not the final word. It's a matter of fact, not of perception, whether something is racist.

Who gets to decide, white liberals?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Every human being using their own individual judgment has to try and decide as best they can for themselves. There is no authority who says such-and-such a thing is racist, and such-and-such a thing is not racist. It's like deciding what's right and wrong.

Deciding what's right and wrong is the only way to have a right and a wrong you idiot.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait. So Japanese people are not able to decide if something is racist TOWARDS them? Wow. Thank God the blessed Americans are there to lead them in this darkness.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
They can decide. Americans can also decide. Neither of them is intrinsically right.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you actually believe that or are you trolling? Please, tell me you are trolling.

They are lying what's worse. People like this inevitably end up telling others how they should think about what is and isn't offensive when others disagree with them.

Yay!!! Postmodernism!!! And it's STUPID AND SHITTY ARGUMENTS WHICH LEAD ALL OF US NOWHERE AND CAN'T COME UP WITH BETTER SOLUTIONS FOR THE WORLD :))))
Yeah let's go with it's cheap rethoric

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's ridiculous.

Japanese people absolutely do get to decide whether something is racist towards them or not. It's incredibly patronizing and paternalistic for anyone else to tell them.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not a question of taking offense; something either contributes towards a prejudiced and inequitable view of the world, and inequitable structures, or it does not. And no one person is the final authority on whether something does or does not. You have to think about it and examine it for yourself.

Something either does something or it doesn't but nobody is allowed to decide whether it does? *confused*

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me guess, you're American

(Anonymous) 2014-04-29 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
as an American I find this offensive. which means that it clearly is offensive, the matter is closed, please stop arguing forthwith

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
nah broh, since it seems ANYONE can determine wether or not something is offensive or not for another cultures, then i determine this isn't offensive

THANK YOU AMERICAN WHITE SAVIORS!!!!!!!! NOW I UNDERSTAND WHAT MY COUNTRY FELT DECADES AGO WHEN YOU ORGANIZED MANY COUPS-DE-ETAT BECAUSE WE STUPIDLY THOUGHT WE COULD TRY OTHER WAYS THAN LIBERALISM OR BEING YOUR UNDERDOGS!!!!!!!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
YOU'RE SO WELCOME! NO APPLAUSE, JUST MONEY!

(Anonymous) 2014-04-30 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
But then when there's a society (aka. americans) saying something is racist when IT ISN'T then they are actually creating racism. So they are basically the racists on first place since they have decided that's got to be racist when the original population (aka. japan) says it isn't. Those who say this video is racist are actually the racists.
