That's ridiculous.

Japanese people absolutely do get to decide whether something is racist towards them or not. It's incredibly patronizing and paternalistic for anyone else to tell them.

It's not a question of taking offense; something either contributes towards a prejudiced and inequitable view of the world, and inequitable structures, or it does not. And no one person is the final authority on whether something does or does not. You have to think about it and examine it for yourself.
