But part of that is that only one of these men has a (shown) male relative (and they look alike as well). I mean, it makes sense that Anna and Elsa have similar features as you know, they are sisters and that they resemble their mother, like kids often do. Especially as you can see some resemblance with their father as well (though mostly Anna's hair colour in this case) Same with Rapunzel and her biological parents. (And perhaps there is something to the Tumblr theories that Anna and Elsa's mum is related to Rapunzel's dad?) Gothel doesn't really look that much like the other women.

I'm sure this would be the case if we saw more male relatives, like Hans' brothers.

That being said, they do look fairly alike, and it would be nice to see more variety, but it's not fair to compare 6 unrelated men to 6 women where there's only one who isn't related to anyone.

But you see it was all meticulously calculated and written this way so there would be a justified reason for all the female characters to look alike. They want you to think it's not sexist but it deliberately is. It's a conspiracy and you fell for it.

Except in the concept art, when Elsa was a villain, they managed to avoid sameface.

they were pretty obviously going to show Elsa as the confident, corrupt, older sister. And Anna as the forgotten about 'spare' who proves everyone wrong by standing up to her evil sister. You can see the early characterizations in More Then Just The Spare http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/More_Than_Just_The_Spare

And the thing is? In the concept art you can see a lot of the intended characterization just from posing/design. You can apply a lot of personality. The final designs are... pretty, but they obviously went for pretty first, and 'give us shorthand for the character' second.

Also the whole "Rapunzel is their cousin" thing is just a fan theory.

Was Elsa her sister at that point in development? I think she was just the "Snow Queen", no relation.
And concept art is different than the actual 3D models and such.

Well, that concept art is very stylized and, in my opinion, seems to be more about showcasing what their personalities and assigned roles were at that point than what the characters would end up looking like in the finished movie. If you look at other art (like http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140123012438/disney/images/thumb/a/a7/Anna-and-Elsa-Concept-Art-frozen-35612444-1200-1600.jpg/258px-Anna-and-Elsa-Concept-Art-frozen-35612444-1200-1600.jpg) where Elsa is still the villain, they look a lot more alike and also a lot more like sisters (which I personally like, though of course siblings doesn't necessary have to look similar!)

But like I said in the comment above, I do want more variety in how female characters look (Like it would be really cool to have a curvier female lead, like the Elsa in the concept art you linked!) What my main point in the other comment was that I just think it's unfair to compare the looks of 6 women where there's two groups of related women and one who's not related to anyone (and that character doesn't even resemble the others)
