LOL, yes to the bad taste part. I caught a bit of an NPR segment where a guy was brought on to discuss the video, and his analysis was pretty much "People are saying it's racist, but it's actually just kind of stupid and not good music and only her fans will like it. J-pop has some really interesting weird stuff going on right now and most people don't give a shit about Avril." It amused me greatly.

It seems like an attempt to appeal to j-pop and k-pop fans (of which there are a ton even in the US), which strikes me as more hilarious and desperate than racist or malicious.
