I honestly think the Final Fantasy series has traditionally had a ton of awesome, strong female characters. Not all of them are physically strong, but especially in the older games, they were strong, multidimensional characters.

I didn't necessarily like all the female character (or male characters for that matter), but still. I don't think any of them were, personality/ability-wise, a slap in the face to feminism.

However, no words can describe my horror and hatred for what Square Enix has done with Lightning. In the newest game, apparently they spent the time to make her boobs bigger (from size C to size D) and work out jiggle dynamics, IN ADDITION to playing dress up in a number of super revealing, super out of character costumes. Ugh.

I was so stunned and disappointed by that too. It was the baldest reminder that GAMER CULTURE and the companies that appeal to it are still appallingly sexist.
