People who insist their ship is canon annoy the shit out of me.

NO ONE CARES. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOUR SHIP IS CANON. PEOPLE SHIP CHARACTERS THAT NEVER HAD A SINGLE LINE OF DIALOGUE. THEY SHIP CHARACTERS LIVING IN DIFFERENT UNIVERSES. ARHGHHGHGH.

It's one thing to insist that a ship is canon. But it takes it to a whole new level when people are inventing conspiracy theories or accusing the creator of bigotry to explain why they won't admit the ship is canon

I mean just look at yourself people who are doing that. Look at yourself

fandom conspiracy theories are just my favourite

it requires this complete disconnect from reality to believe that the creators are secretly deleting all this behind the scenes footage of their OTP making out

the pinnacle of tinhat madness for me is J2 (Supernatural). I can't think of anything else that's superceded that level of crazy. (though some of the Harry Potter shippers come close.)

Seriously. Who cares. It annoys me when people do that even when the ship eventually turns out to become canon. Ship what you want. Canon is canon and fanon is fanon, and that's okay. Don't use "its canon" or "its going to be canon" as a trump card because it isn't. How does canon make a ship better?

Personally I think it makes a ship worse, because it sets certain events and characterisations in stone.

As someone who frequently ships non-canon, and finds the non-canon status of their pairing a liberating thing*, I agree with you.

* I think non-canon allows far more possibilities for interpretation for a pairing, while being canon locks one into the canon depiction of a pairing.

Pointless additional comment: I ship two people who never meet, and at best the younger own may have heard the older one's cousin mention him as someone who died on a quest the cousin's father went on. The only thing more non-canon than that is that I also ship the older one's OC nephew/son with a stone.
