WORLD FUCKING WAR(S). Plural. It's like after the first war, they thought, "You know what? We were too kind in the first war. Let's just go full tilt boogie psychopath on the people on our shitlist."

(Of course, Japan did give them a run for their money when it came to what they did to places like Nanking. Holy fuck, that was pure evil.)

The Japanese had a better PR team though for the aftermath, plus their worst atrocities were only against other yellows so that doesn't really count as far as most movie/tv/game producers are concerned. Apart from the katanna, the nips didn't a decent enough visuals to rate a design budget too.

Germany had crap PR (too concerned with building state of the art industrial and scientific infrastructure to make cartoons about school girls with tentacle-rape issues), was bad to whites in Europe (and the Jews and Gypsies as well -- Homosexuals too, but still too few people give a damn about that, especially in Flyover States), and most damningly hired a fashion designer for their uniforms so they are instantly well costumed and memorable.

PR team maybe? I think it was more of a cultural thing. In German, you make an error, you admit the error so then you can correct it. That's how you save face. I'd hate to call being the cause of WWII a simple world like "error." But you get the idea. Now in Japan, the opposite is true. You never, ever admit your error. You deny it. You sweep it under a rug. You do not speak about it. To do so, to admit you did something wrong is to lose face.

So, while Germany sat there and said, "Yes, we did this." Or the classic line of, "We were following orders." Japan has denied and/or downplayed everything and tried to hide evidence. They have been very, very good at this. So, their atrocities are less known because their is less evidence. (The dead cannot speak.) Thus, Nazis are more known culturally world wide than the Japanese soldiers of WWII.

Except the people of Nazi Germany were culpable in Hitler's rise of power, the people of Imperial Japan didn't have anything to do with what the armies did, so I think they're less responsible,.

Oh, come on. It was both a case of "people following orders." Populations have over thrown kings and armies because they didn't like how their country was run. The Japanese went along with everything because just like the Germans they through they were racially superior and had a right to rule and to do that by any means possible was the correct way of getting things done.

Germany and Japan were very similar in that regard. How they differ was how they reacted after the war and they had own up to their roles in the war.

I don't think the civilian Japanese even knew what Imperial Japan was doing at the time, the Germans knew about how the Jews and other groups were being treated and supported it, even if they didn't know the full extent of what was happening.

Furthermore, I think the reason why less people go after Japan now is because of how they suffered from the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; Germany never faced that kind of punishment.

The fact that the US unleashed two nukes on Japan might have helped with Japan's image too.

Kind of hard to feel sorry for them when they did bomb Pearl Harbor without a warning. (Even some of the higher ups in the Japanese military thought it was a bad idea to mess with Americans.) The Americans did drop fliers for days warning the Japanese to surrender or else they would destroy the place. And the Japanese government told the public to ignore them that the Americans were full of it. If the Japanese government cared about its people, they would have moved them out of the way. Hell, they knew they were losing and they should have surrendered. The Emperor wanted to. But the military was willing to go down until every man, woman and child was dead. They even made an attempt on the Emperor's life in order to prolong the war.

Pearl Harbor was a military base, and therefore a valid target. If the sailors and the marines (marines being the navy's soldiers) didn't want bombed or shot at they ought not to have joined the military. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were primarily civilian population centers. That is the difference between war crime (attacking a military target without previous declaration of war) and crime against humanity (deliberately wiping out unarmed civilians). They are both bad, but one is much, much, much worse. America was the worst of the two there. Oh, and "they started it" is not a valid defense for anything after 3rd grade.

Australia is like the minge of a 70 year old. Everyone knows it is down there, but frankly it is dry, smelly, infested with weird organisms and we'd rather not think about it if we can help it.

Note: "worst" not "all". The Nips worst atrocities were in China and Malaya against the Chinese and Malaysian natives. What they did to the Whites, including Australians, was dreadful but still nothing compared to the Chinese and Malaysian atrocities. I'm just pointing out that producers don't give a crap about them, I'm not endorsing that attitude just saying it exists. It ain't always about you, whitey!

Incidentally Australia had a masterplan to conduct the worst warcrime if the Nips ever invaded Aussieland. They were going to fake an easy point of landing on Western Australia, leave the invading Japanese forces to the weather and wildlife of Western Australia, and then accept the surrender of any survivors in a few month's time. The cruel bastards.

Yeah, no. I don't know what you learned in history, but I don't think it was correct.

Germany was the only intact loser after WWI, so they bore the brunt of the blame despite the fact that it wasn't their archduke, they weren't the assassins, and they were far from the first to declare war. Their monarchy was dethroned with no power put in its place, industrialization was all but outlawed, and their economy was so depressed that it could take a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. Then someone showed up and told them it was okay to be German, that they could be proud of themselves, and basically to 'stick it to the man', with 'the man' being France, England, and the other victors in this case. He was charismatic, he was driven, he was a brilliant leader, and he was also an insane bigot. It's just that no one knew that last one at the time. By the time his terrible nature became obvious, there were two reasons to keep him in power. One: he'd brainwashed basically all the young adults into accepting his point of view. Two: people still remembered starving and being completely without jobs not even a generation before. In a choice between ignoring something happening to those other people and starving their own families, most people will choose to help the people they know and can actually see. For all those that didn't, though... Well, that was what the SS was for. Fear kept in line those that self-interest didn't motivate.

There's a lot more to it than even that, but it certainly wasn't a conscious choice on the part of the Germans to support the Nazis and their atrocities. Many Germans didn't even know about the atrocities until well into the war, or even after it was done.

The myth of an intact Germany, the myth of being extra heavily punished, the myth of wrecked economy, all created by the Nazi-party. The real wrecking of the German economy didn't start until after the moustachioed one got into politics.

Perhaps I misread it, but almost nothing in that article even discussed the points I was making, correct or not. Are you sure you got the right one? Was there a Part 2 or something? I'll freely admit that history isn't one of my main interests, but I will stand behind my point that "Vote for us! Our leader is insane, we plan on terrorizing you before making you cannon fodder in our quest for power, and genocide is a great idea!" wasn't on the Nazi party's election posters.

About the only thing I saw relevant was number 3, talking about the bureaucracy. That being true would only mean that the Nazi party had good enough PR to thoroughly terrify the populace even if they couldn't back it up. That still doesn't actually refute anything I said.

I will give you that Germany was less responsible for WWI than Austria-Hungary, and maybe less than Russia, but it wasn't dragging its feet very much, either.

Neither did Britain, nor France, nor Russia. Europe was spoiling for a war. They just didn't know what they were getting into until it was too late to back out. Most of the people who signed up here in Canada thought it might be over before they got to the battle, and almost everyone thought it would be over by Christmas. Perhaps part of Europe knew better, but I am unaware of whom they were if that was the case.

If Germany had stayed out of Belgium and hadn't got battleship fever then Britain would have stayed out of it and Germany would have won. Germany brought Britain into it by creating a naval threat to an island nation and by steamrollering over a neutral country that depended on that other nation for defense. Britain was an unwilling war participant there. If Germany hadn't tried to get Mexico to take back the Alamo it would have kept the US out too. They'd even have avoid war with Japan (Japan was in the allies in WW1) too, since Japan was only a combatant due to their then defense pact with Britain. Germany should have stayed focused on the East and it might even have won, but WW1 was Germany's war.

Britain genuinely was trying to avoid a war -- or at least some factions were. France, Russia, and Germany all had significant factions pushing hard for one. Austria-Hungary was desperate to bolster its credibility and everyone knew it was going to leap on the first opportunity.
