I love reading the comments on my secrets. Sure, I get and anticipate negativity but seeing the comments is often part of the POINT of me posting secrets.

And I often get more positive comments than expected. *shrug*

Or maybe, just maybe, the whole point of a comments section and anon secrets is so that a person can honestly reply with how they feel about a secret. Maybe. Possibly. Who knows? Could be.

Like, yeah, they get why it's a secret, that doesn't mean they shouldn't respond to why the secret is wrong/stupid/etc.?

I don't think you understand how the comments section and opinions work. You're free to post whatever secret you want anonymously. The people here are allowed to agree or critique the secret however they please. That's the point.

To me, because lots of secrets are "confessions," the comments are often an absolution of sorts -- of the "It's okay, anon, no need to feel so ashamed!"

But...why should that stop people from saying your secret is creepy? People will say what they will, you know that when you post the secret. They can love it, they can hate it, etc etc. It's all valid.

(Granted, maybe your secret wasn't creepy, but how can I know that?!)

You have shown me the light, OP!

I hereby propose that from now on, we only make positive, supportive comments. If we agree with the secret, we can say so, and can even say why. But if we disagree with it, we should assume that the way the secret makes us feel is why it's a secret, and if we want to comment at all, we should thank the OP for making the secret and submitting it to the community. Or we should even let OP know how brave they are for making the secret.

Thanks, OP! I think this is gonna be a much nicer place now. It probably won't be as interesting, but at least all of the secret makers will feel really good.

Well, so? People have the freedom to submit secrets. We have the freedom to tell them they're creepy. How damn boring would this community be otherwise? The main point, for some people, in submitting secrets in the first place is to see what *other* people's opinions about it are.

that's why i respond to serects that look like they're probably trolling as if they're real.

they're a secret for a reason. it doesn't mean i have to hold back my opinion though. if the person is that sensitive that they can't be told when they're doing something creepy then they shouldn't post or read the comments.

Sometimes secret makers, deep down, post in the hopes that someone will say "Ohmigosh didn't you know we all secretly feel that way?" and we're here to be like "No. No one else feels like that. That is a bad thought and you are bad for thinking it."

We get some pretty creepy secrets around here. This isn't a "tell us your deepest confessions and we'll accept you with open arms" comm, it's a comm made up of many different people with varying opinions on how creepy your secret is.
