idk I find incest creepy and I have siblings and...that's part of the reason I think it's creepy.

But I don't think everyone who likes incest projects that onto their family irl. It's a big ymmv thing how you respond to a hot-button kink like that.

That's just it, and that's the part that I really don't understand? I have a couple of incest ships, and I don't see myself or anyone I know in them, it's literally just those two pairs of characters and their relationships to each other through their own lenses. I don't project onto any of my pairings, but apparently that's weird if this is such a prevalent thing.

I don't either and I'm always baffled by people who do. I'm into ships for those two specific characters and their particular dynamics. I'm not interested in trying to connect that to any real-world relationships at all, because to me the entire appeal of fiction is that it ISN'T real life.

I can't help but feel that people who do project themselves onto ships or characters must be unhappy with their real lives in some way.

I think it has more to do with people who have an incest kink, not who happen to like a particular ship.

And there's the fact that even for a particular sibling ship the fact that they're related might be distracting and squicky for some people. Though, again, I don't get people who think that everyone has the same reaction.

That's the reason I ship brother pairings and brother/sister pairings, but could never do sister pairings. The idea that people ship Anna/Elsa from Frozen is so BIZZARE to me, because Anna and Elsa are extremely similar to my sister and me. I don't judge people who ship it, I just really don't get it and it squicks me. Same with parent/child. But I only have the one sister and no brothers, so I don't really have any gauge for how that relationship is supposed to look. I try not to judge people for their ships, however fucked up, but there are some that just rub me REALLY HARD the wrong way.
