OP, a lot of those people dont like anything. Utterly serious.

I suspect a lot of them would prefer these issues never get discussed outside women's/gender studies classes. You know, those places they're privileged enough to study in. Screw accessible models for kids! If they cared they'd be reading the literature!

"Those people" is pretty dismissive of a lot of queer experiences. Also? You don't need a degree to educate yourself on topics like sexuality. You just need the ability to be open to learn and the tiniest modicum of respect for others. It's interesting that you bring up privilege because it's something queer kids desperately lack. We don't grow up seeing ourselves in media. In the rare instances we do, we're evil, or treated as bizarre, and usually? We end up dead. It is deeply, incredibly important to have real queer representation. I absolutely agree with the op, escapist fantasy is incredibly important. We need more stories where queer kids can be happy, can have all the same dumb drama and cliche experiences as our peers. We can have comedy, and joy, and love. So yeah, it's not reality, but we have more than enough of it already. We deserve better.

I know Chard can be a bit trolly at times, but they were agreeing with the OP,and not objecting to escapist queer fantasies or dismissing queer kids. "Those people" clearly refers to people who do object to escapist fantasies and are subjecting them to a particular kind of (pseudo) academic critique while denying them any value.

...chard is also agreeing with the OP, anon.
