Re: Popular ships you anti-ship for benign reasons

I'm super-neutral on basically all non-canon ships. There are plenty of ships where I devour good fic featuring shipping (ESPECIALLY slash) by the fuckton, but I really dislike actually viewing and interpreting canon through a shipping lens. "Slash goggles" are just...not a thing for me. At all.

There are some ships that I avoid in all fashions, even in fic, because I like the platonicness so much. CJ/Toby from The West Wing is a big one. Jack/Liz. Lassiter/Juliet. Eleven/Amy. James/Sirius. Spock/McCoy. Han/Luke. Buffy/Willow. Sisko/Jadzia.

This is definitely true for me as well. But especially in cases where people are working together or you have kind of a found family thing going on, I just cannot ship anyone within that dynamic unless it's explicitly canonical. Like The West Wing. Noooooope not shipping anything. It just doesn't work for me - I think it's because in those situations I like seeing all the intercombinations between different people in the group, and seeing them as a unit, not pairing people off.

Awwww man I'm so torn on Lassiter/Juliet. Sometimes I'm like "Yes platonic crime-fighting besties with an insane competitive streak!!" and sometimes I'm like "OMG u are so in love please be together" and sometimes I switch multiple times in the same episode or fic and it drives me batty.

I've known some fictional duos I felt exactly this way about too! ;) I was never sure whether to say "I ship it" or not.
