I hate those redesigns. ESPECIALLY Aurora's. She was my favorite princess, and not only did they soften the wonderfully crisp lines of the original animation, they made her dress pink, PINK. NO. STOP. Merryweather disapproves and SO DO I.

Ain't no frown like a Merryweather frown.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
... wait, her dress wasn't pink? It's been pink in all of the merchandise I've seen for years.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's both, courtesy a couple of fairy godmothers battling it out, but it's blue for the vast majority of the film. Disney used the pink version for the merchandise lineup because they'd already put Cinderella in blue.

Blue Aurora forever!

Her dress has always been pink in merchandise so she's more obviously not Cinderella.

I always wondered, as a kid, why the fairies didn't end up compromising with purple.

Or have some nice mash-up of pink and blue, like part-blue, part-pink, with swirls of each going into the other.

Because purple is a Disney Villain colour, apparently. Maleficent, Ursula, The Evil Queen, Queen Narissa. Purple or crimson makes a Disney villain.

Swirl would have been nice though.

But then they put Rapunzel in purple... so it's not just a villain color.

Yeah, they might be trying to break their old habits. Aurora's one of the original three, though, so old school rules for her, I guess.

I think the thing is that Rapunzel is in a lighter shade of purple, instead of a deep royal purple that is often used for villains.

Red, green, black, and purple are the villain colors. Almost every single villain is dominated by one or two of those colors. The only exceptions I can think of off the top of my head are Hades (who still had black as a motif, but blue also) and Clayton.

Disney uses green as Merida's 'color' in the princess merchandise though, even though the dress she wore for most of the movie was technically more of a navy.

(And Jasmine's got the pastel green.)

Jasmine is light blue for merchandise.

Since when is Jasmine pastel green? That's blue.

I'd always thought it was kind of... light blue-green?

Merida's color looks more teal than green to me. Her mother gets green.

I guess I consider teal a shade of green, but yeah you're right.

Because if they compromised we'd miss out on all the spunk that is Merryweather! XD

I prefer blue Aurora, but Disney has been using pink for her dress in the merchandise and promo stuff for twenty plus years. Cinderella is their blue blonde princess (yeah I know her dress isn't actually blue), so Aurora gets thrown in pink.

It's nothing new with the redesigns.

This is why I wish they'd just throw GREEN out there for ONCE so we can see what she looks like in Fauna's color.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-09 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I read somewhere that's the reason they give Belle a pink and a green dress briefly in BatB, as an homage to the other fairies since her regular dress is blue.
