I know right?! Also, create a damn wiki so that hunters can add information about various monsters. And a forum! Where hunters can discuss methods with each other. And they can have a "This seems wonky, someone should investigate further" subforum. And maybe they can start working in teams (none of this solo shit) and when something is investigated (and fixed) it can have a bit of PROBLEM SOLVED flair.

I have a whole headcanon for this to be honest. There is quite a bit more, but that is the tech stuff.

I'd so watch a series where every episode begins with people browsing a forum or a wiki for new monster problems and then different hunters go out to deal with it and at the end of every year they meet at a bar to have a reunion and tell war stories.

I just get so angry that none of them seem to share any information. >:[

I'd watch it too.

Or read the book.

Maybe it could be an anthology, and with luck, turned into a tv series?

I just assume everyone except the main characters are doing this... Which means that the main characters do end up a bit stupider in my mind than they deserve, but I refuse to believe that in a modern society people hunting monsters would not use the internet to connect and share information...

Though if I were a monster and there were a wiki for hunters, you bet I'd be editing it to say, "The only way to defeat this monster is to give it copious amounts of fine cheeses and baked goods, and a nice deep-tissue massage."

On the other hand maybe they saw that episode of Buffy where Willow summoned a demon onto the internet by scanning a book.

Now THERE'S an idea for a series; the poor tech support guy with no powers hired to maintain the servers for a supernatural hunting organization. Not only does he need to deal with bizarre eccentric hunters but he also needs to deal with the demons and such who keep trying to destroy the server.

Not to mention that the server failing is a matter of life and death.

"We need you to reboot the server!"
"Oh sure, lemme just warm up my laptop to remote in ..."
"Quickly! Sareen is fighting a new kind of werewolf and needs the wiki NOW!"
"Oh! Uh, okay, I'm going as fast as I can!"

...The level of point-missage here is spectacular.

...What? That is totally not what the OP said, at all.

Whaa? I don't care about it in the general sense, I just think all the cross referencing and database making/data entry would be fun and question why nobody's done it on the shows. I mean, imagine if you could just do a search for "green goo" and get everything you need to know about specters (or anything else that might leave green goo) in seconds.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-09 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OT, but I'm so angry about being spoiled for tonight's episode... By someone who was telling other people not to spoil people. ARGH.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-09 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Or Teen Wolf. Which is even MORE frustrating, since, at one point, they had the info on a laptop. Or was that fanon? Crap. I can't remember.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-09 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's canon for Teen Wolf. Gerard had the Argent bestiary on a flash drive and Peter had all his info on a laptop.

I was thinking of Teen Wolf too. I.. Am not sure. I know he Googles and prints out information sometimes, and I'm pretty sure he's researched with books, but I don't think he has any kind of master copy of all the information relevant to Beacon Hills. I think it would completely in character for him too, but I don't recall it happening.

(Who has Gerard's bestiary? I can't remember what happened to it.)

(Anonymous) 2014-05-09 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Gerard had a flash drive. But other than that it's not really like we've seen them hitting the books all that much for information.

I agree, this sounds like it would be way more convenient and helpful than writing things down the old fashioned way. Granted I know that electronics are finicky and Internet is not always available, but hell... Have both actual books and digital copies if you're that worried. And I also think kaijin has a point about message boards or some kind of online community for hunters; shit would get done much faster. Bet everyone would be safer, too.

I feel like the new generation of savvy hunters who would actually spearhead a modern revolution in hunting methods are like Sam, they're savvy enough to want nothing to do with it and get the fuck out when they can (and don't have demons after them since birth to make them come back). And the ones who are in it for life are like Dean, who, while not technologically backwards, doesn't have the natural inclination to push for big changes like that. And so hunting stagnates when they should be aggressively taking advantage of instant communication, record keeping, and information distribution that computers provide. Like, shouldn't important resources like John Winchester's journal be scanned and uploaded for hunters around the world to examine and add their own perspectives to? It's so frustrating.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I am with you 100% (I watch Grimm) and I cannot believe that no one is digitizing what is in the books. Hell - I'm upset they haven't put the trailer somewhere more secure even if its a storage locker or an abandoned warehouse.

Atleast Buffy had a reason never to go digital considering demon in the machine was literal. Though Big Wolf on Campus had a character, Merton, who did both the internet, forums, and books so someone was ahead of their time in the 90s XD

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
They did it in Highlander! Back in the '90s. Entire plot thread about the top-secret supernatural-studying organization digitizing its archives. And then any two-bit villain who wanted to control everything trying to get a copy of the archive.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, in everyone's defense, when they tried that on Buffy they released a demon onto the internet.

I used to have similar feelings when I was watching SPN. It would frustrate me when the brothers would swan into a town and fix the supernatural problem but not tell the family they saved how to protect themselves in future, little things they could do like salting the doors and windows. If they came to my house and saved my family, they'd be hard pressed to get away from me without giving me at least a 101 in keeping safe.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
My OC and her even more mary-sueish brother did in my SPN series. So, yeah, the thought has occurred to me as well.
