Same, I'm always constantly thinking "Is there/she a strong female character? What does the author's depiction of this character say about their viewpoint of women?" It sucks because you really start pinning your hopes on female characters and disappointment always feels like a bigger deal than it should be. On one hand, it's like, "Of course the white male guy is the protagonist," but at the same time I think the author was just writing stuff that he related to and has fun with it.

Like, I'm watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and I just want to see buff dudes punch each other, but another side of me is going, "Of course the only strong female character so far had the only bath scene and then her only major fight scene she needs to be rescued in."

But now that I think about it, it's not completely bad. I play RE5 with my boyfriend and I pointed out all the female characters had pretty lame roles as the "second player" in the final boss battles, but then Chris's entire ending sequence is reliant on his male partner and is absolutely badass. I told him, "This was by far the coolest thing the 2nd player has done, and of course I'm a guy." He laughed pretty hard at that and said he would have never noticed that.

I also pointed out in HunterxHunter, the first few girls you meet all have some weird domestic household power. I mean, they're badass, but they're all like sewing/cooking/vacuuming... Until Pakunoda, but yeah
