I'm always the odd person out with my SHIELD opinions, because I love AOS. And I especially loved the finale; thought it was perfect. It made me laugh (and curse) several times, it was satisfying...I like where the show is heading.

Forever alone in this opinion. :( Ah well.

I want Agent Carter pretty damn bad, but I think Marvel will probably do a better job with Carter from the start because they've had a whole season of SHIELD to see what works with people and what doesn't. I imagine it's a learning experience. (Or hope it is, anyway. Though again, I liked the first season as is, there's always room for improvement.)

I wanted to love it. I don't know. There were parts of the finale I liked (SPOILERS)

Fury was great. And May was great. But I'm really not liking the Fitz/Simmons angle. And I'm pissed that Ward is still alive. I don't know.

I loved Fury and May and Coulson and even Sky. She's grown on me a lot since the start of the season.

Fitz/Simmons isn't something I would be too excited about because I like their relationship as is and don't feel it needs to be romantic, but at the same time I thought their scenes together were really well written and acted. Fitz's beautiful teary eyes and Simmons' distress and concern killed me. I also had a feeling that it was somewhat one-sided? Though I'm not sure if that's how the scene was meant to come off. I thought the kisses were more out of affection and desperation (to show Fitz that she still cares about him and isn't 'put off') than out of anything romantic. So I'm not sure where that's going to go next season.

And I think it would've been smart for the team to kill Ward, but I didn't for one second think the show would so I'm just kind of rolling with that one for now. I hope they do something interesting with him if they're going to keep him around.

I actually grew really fond of Sky by the end. She was definitely my Most Improved Player for the season. I could watch her and May do shit all day long.

I just really hate Ward. I hated him when he was boring. And I hate him now. I just want him to die and go away.

I love it too! I loved the finale, every bit of it. Especially that FitzSimmons didn't kiss outright but still killed me with their emotion.

Like I said above, I loved the FitzSimmons scenes so much but I don't really want them to hook up. I feel like the show can make it work for me but it doesn't feel necessary. I kind of like the idea of Simmons not exactly returning Fitz's feelings in THAT way and them staying bff's that are as close as ever and moving on to other people. (Or not being involved in romance at all, either or). But they're sweet and adorable any way you look at it, so... We'll see. I just want more of them in general. I hope Fitz is okay. :( I'm concerned.

Omg that bit with Garrett at the end KILLED me. I was cursing, “Are you fucking serious, he's getting away with this?” Then I laughed so hard when Coulson came out and shot him. It was magnificent.

I agree with all of that about FitzSimmons, though I wouldn't mind seeing them together eventually, but not yet at all. I love their current dynamic too much. I hope Fitz has a good recovery and he and Simmons can still do science :(

That ending with Garrett was so perfect. I loved the humor they brought especially into this episode.

I loved most of the season and I loved every bit of the finale; the outcome, including exchanging Ward for Triplett, was exactly what I wanted. Yeah, it was a bit Fury ex machina, but it's always fun to see him.

Agreed. I can't help but enjoy Fury ex machina, as long as it's not too often. And yeah, Ward for Triplett. I loved that last shot of the new team (minus Fitz :( )

I haven't seen any casting news for the next season, but I doubt they'll sideline Fitz completely. I'm hoping his injury will spark some character change; it's not that I didn't like him, but I can't see his character working long-term. I'd like to see him gain a sense of purpose beyond "hey, look at this cool toy".

Triplett has been amazing. At first I wasn't sure where the show was going to go with him, but he's easily one of the most likable characters on SHIELD right now. And the actor is a delight (not to mention easy on the eyes)! I'm digging him a lot and am glad they kept him on and gave him a bigger role near the end of the season.

Haha, it was, but I ain't even mad. Not sure I will ever object to more Fury, especially if they keep using him sparingly; it works for him.

Plus I'm just glad we got some Fury/Coulson interaction. (NEGL, I ship them a bit.) The scene with them near the end actually made me awww. I'm easily manipulated.

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-14 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I know. Fitz is one of my favorite characters, I can't stand to see him in pain. (Yet at the same time... He cries so pretty.) I hope he recovers but I'm afraid he's going to be in terrible shape next season and the team will have to take drastic measures if he's to be “himself” again.

I AM AFRAID.

Cannot have too much Peggy

[personal profile] cassandraoftroy 2014-05-14 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Me too! I'm so scared for him. But there doesn't seem to be anything in the news about him leaving the show, so I'm holding onto that as hope that Fitz will be okay in the end. I adore him.

I haven't seen the finale yet, but I am right there with you on the AOS love. I REALLY like the Recent Major Plot Twist and I love Trip and how he's affecting the Fitzsimmons dynamic and I want a spinoff series where May and her mom and Maria Hill just drive around making phone calls in diners. I'm excited for the finale, though admittedly I'm pretty sick of Ward being on my screen.

Re: Agents of Shield

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-14 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Trip is so good with FitzSimmons. I don't tend to be an OT3'r and I'm not even sure I want FitzSimmons to be canon, but I could see them all involved with each other and being great together. Trip certainly has chemistry with both of them, but then again... He has chemistry with pretty much everyone. (Coulson, Skye, etc) And he's just a delightful character in general; he's so cute and geeky and competent and I love it. I'll be glad to see him as an official part of the team next season.

May is a beautiful goddess and anything with her OR Maria Hill is something I will get behind because they are both fantastic. And May's mother is fierce. Someone make this happen.

I mostly liked what they did with Ward in the finale, which isn't to say that I liked HIM in the finale, but I think the actor is doing a great job with him and the show has made him more intriguing in the later part of the season. I'm not sure how much Ward will be in next season though (or if he'll still be a regular; it would make more sense if he wasn't), so maybe you'll get your wish and he won't be on screen much in the future.

I do like Evil Ward a lot more than I liked Boring Ward, but still, argh, Evil Ward, stop messing everything up >:(. I just want him to go off with his stupid Evilness Mentor* and leave the rest of the team alone to have adorable interpersonal drama and geek out about Trip's Suitcase O' Vintage Tech.

Trip is love. <3

*I actually really enjoy Bill Paxton's performance and I think Brett is doing a great job, too, and I appreciate the bonus character layers, but ARGH, WARD, STOP. >:(

You're not alone. The friends I watched it with and I adored it. The finale and the last few episodes have renewed my interest in the series, and now I plan to go back and rewatch the whole thing.

I guess some people had higher expectations. It met mine & went well beyond them.

Re: Agents of Shield

Seriously, I guess I'm easy to please, but AOS met and exceeded my expectations the first time Nick Fury showed up to yell about fish tanks on his plane. Everything since then has been icing on the cake.

That's me as well. I just wanted a bit of Marvel shaped fun every week and AOS was totally that for me. And more, even, especially in the latter half of the season; I didn't think I was going to grow to love this cast so much. Or that it would end so strongly. I'm pleased with it. (And am extremely glad to not be the only one who feels this way! I hope you enjoy your marathon!)

Re: Agents of Shield

[personal profile] elialshadowpine 2014-05-14 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
I love it too. The first five or so eps were "meh" but I didn't dislike them enough to not continue. I really liked the Tahiti plot with Coulson, and then the ep with Sif and Lorelei (... am I the only one who saw those two and thought "there needs to be hatesex fic of this"?) and then the twist right around when Cap2 came out. I'm waiting for the last couple eps to come out because I know I'll want to marathon it, so I don't know what's happened following "Turn, Turn, Turn" (I'm not spoiler-adverse, though). It seems to be finding its footing, and I hope that continues in S2.

I am really looking forward to Agent Carter. I'm not a big Cap fan myself (although came to quite like him in the 1st movie, and really in the 2nd; I had always gotten the impression he was more Marvel's version of Superman, but he's nowhere near that annoyingly goody-goody), but I adored Peggy and wanted to see more of her. I will happily watch a tv series of Peggy being awesome. :D

Re: Agents of Shield

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-14 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The beginning of AOS wasn't the strongest, but I also don't feel it was nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It had its issues, but by the finale the plot, cast, everything really, it all seemed to come together nicely. And the last couple episodes have been plain good imo, not even just for AOS; it was solid TV. You should get to catching up ASAP, I don't think you'll be disappointed! (And no, Sif/Lorelei didn't cross my mind, but... Sif/May definitely did. Those two could get up to some things. Also Sif was one of my favorite parts of this entire season; I adore her. Tahiti was a neat storyline, I like how it played out too, and the Cap tie-in episodes were wonderful. I hope they have some sort of tie-in with GOTG planned.)

Poor Cap, lol. I know comic Cap is a separate entity and I haven't read too many of the comics so I don't have much to say about him (Though than I def don't think he's a perfect person either), but movie!Cap is one of my favorite parts of the MCU. I love Evans as Steve; he's a likable, relatable guy. Peggy though... Yea, Peggy is awesome. I want to have Peggy's skills, bravery and resourcefulness. She's a dream. Her short film was beautiful and left me wanting more, so I hope the series follows in the same vein and gives us lots of Peggy being awesome and kicking ass.
