Video game fandoms are some of the wankiest I've ever seen. Don't step into the Sims fandom unless you're wearing protective gear.

Considering that I asked, I kind of do? ö.ö I mean, it's been yeeeeeaaaaars since I played it (oh the times when the water in the pool was still opaque), so I don't really care... just curious.

There's BNF wank, wank about custom content and people stealing each other's meshes, your usual racist/sexist/homophobic wank (like people who don't play with black Sims or gay Sims etc...), wank about how terrible EA is, wank about each new expansion pack, shipping wars centered around the pre-made Sims in the game (yes, really) and loads more.
I mean, there are some very nice parts of the fandom, but the Sims community is surprisingly toxic. Check out simsecret on LJ. Or actually don't. It's not pretty.

Pretty much this. I love vgs but oh god stay away from the fanbase.
My biggest let down was when I got into Dark Souls. The game is fun and challenging but what I loved most was the designs and the unconventional storytelling. I absolutely adore all the characters and the lore.
But when I tried to approach the fandom all I've found were a bunch of whiny crybabies constantly yelling at each other, focusing only on the pvp and constant fights about gankers and hackers. And the constant spam of "git gud".
Needless to say I was very disappointed...
