(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 12:36 am (UTC)(link)At another convention, he heard that one of my stories was on an editor's desk, and he walked up to that editor (completely unasked) and told him "You need to put her story on the top of the stack."
So, no, the narrative painting him as a horrible sexist whatever is stupid and ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)So why do you think he is pimping the misogynistic little zealot who is at best a middling writer?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 12:50 am (UTC)(link)Fred Phelps had a whole family (including daughters!) who loved him and supported his cause. None of them would've described him as a horrible person, either. They would've also said that any accusations of him being a hateful bigot was ridiculous. It's a matter of perspective.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 02:10 am (UTC)(link)I for one applaud that.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)Also, I've had ongoing interactions with him over multiple years. They have always been positive. Seriously, the dude is a teddy bear in person.
And those would be?
(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)"Does not like communism or communists" is not the same as "misogynist", no matter how many times you and your fellow travelers claim that it is.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 07:55 am (UTC)(link)he does not literally snarl and rave maniacally when presented with the existence of a woman, therefore he is not a sexist
i am glad that he was nice to you! i am happy that you had a positive experience. that is good.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 12:25 am (UTC)(link)You mean the guy who won last year? That guy?
That's not what Correia did. And that's not the point he was making either.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)Scalzi used his blog to promote his own eligible work. It won. He also solicited his commenters to recommend works for the ballot. many others put together lists of recommended works for nomination. There's nothing wrong with that -- unless, apparently, you're not one of the Kool Kidz, in which case it's an abomination.
What?
(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)Ballot stuffing
(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)What Larry did is standard practice in all popularity based award formats, especially the Hugo. Nominees have always encouraged others to vote for himself, herself or someone they feel is deserving, that is simply how the world works. The ludicrous part of this entire argument is the fact that many of those in the sci-fi author/fan community that are now making accusations of wrongdoing have done the same thing over the years.
So long as the individual ultimately casts their vote themselves and they do not submit more than that their allotted number of votes, it is not ballot stuffing.
