That storyline has been around for over forty years. If you haven't read it or googled it then you have no one to blame except for yourself. No one should have to tiptoe when discussing something that has been out for the public consumption for DECADES.

It's not a fucking canon-per-canon adaptation. It's not Lord of the Rings. Things happen differently, the characters are alternate versions.

So yes, it was spoilers, you cactus-fucking fanbrat. I'm sorry your underwear is in a bunch because it's not your perfect fucking comics, but it's still fucking spoilers because movie fans =/= comics fans.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Who says anything about me being upset that it wasn't like the comics. I am not the original poster. I am a different anon. I am saying that I am tired of hearing people like you whining about being spoiled by things that have been out longer than you have been in existence. Again, no one should have to tip toe about discussing things that have been available to the public for decades. And if you don't want to read the comic, fine. That is your choice. But it is not fair to make people who have shut up about it like the storyline came out last week.

DA

But it isn't fair to movie fans because they want to watch the movie without reading the comics. It isn't hard to just write SPOILER at the top of your comment.

Ironically that "spoiler" is what got all my friends and coworkers to see the film, they love Emma Stone and were blown away that the film took it there.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The 'spoiler' is actually everything I knew about Gwen Stacey. I've never read a Spiderman comic in my life. Cultural osmosis via TV Tropes and other places.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm not sure there was enough swearing in that comment.

Re: DA

DA

That "spoiler" is as long established and infamous as "Aeris dies". It's like the defining thing about Gwen Stacy. So no, it's not a spoiler. You should be directing all that rage towards yourself for living under a rock all this time.

So people who don't read comics and want to enjoy movies loosely based on them without being spoiled should forget about that because is their own fault for not knowing everything any comic fan knows.

Such a nice, warm and welcoming fandom.

Her death seems so much more than just a spoiler , it really shaped and changed comics history.

SA
You said yourself, "shaped and changed comics history".
Why is surprising it is a spoiler for someone who doesn't read comics?

Funny thing is I don't read the comics either and I have no plans on seeing the movie but I knew Gwen Stacey was going to die just through pop culture osmosis. Like how I have a friend who has never watched the Star Wars films but she knows that Darth Vader is Luke's father because the storyline is such a part of our general pop culture. How did you not know this?

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, guess what, anon?

I did not know that Aeris dies!

Wow, would you look at that, it's STILL A SPOILER.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah no, Gwen's death has been around since before you were born. It's only a spoiler to you because you live under a rock.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I just want to point out that I didn't know she died either (but I have no interest in Spiderman one way or the other). And as rude as everyone in this thread is being, it's unfair to call someone dumb for not knowing about something just because they happen to be young, or get into the fandom late.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
I apologize for my poor conduct in the presence of one such as yourself.

I shall bow before your greatness, O Enlightened Comic Book Nerd. The time and money you have invested in reading every single issue and crossover of Spiderman is truly a sight to behold. You are truly the Truest Fan Who Ever Fanned, and I can only hope to emulate your geekery.

Does that stroke your ego, anon? Does it make you feel meaningful and important? Does it fill the existential void within your soul? ;)

Are you the idiot over on Fanficrants last year that was bitching and moaning about being spoiled for the Hobbit book in a fanfic header for the movie?

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2014-05-19 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Listen you shit huffer. IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE THIS WAY. Gwen Stacy fucking dies. That's her thing. She's an amazing part of Peter Parker's life, then SHE DIES. It is the second most important defining moment of his life.

Uncle Ben dies, Gwen Stacy dies. That's basically every iteration of spider-man ever except the ones that make it a point to mention they are alternate universes. Movies, comics, cartoons, don't matter. Uncle Ben dies, Gwen Stacy dies.

Just because you've managed to miss something most people find out by cultural osmosis doesn't mean the rest of us have to tip toe around your stunning ignorance.

Re: Take a long hard suck of my hairy stinky cock.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who didn't even know Gwen existence before ASM and who was spoiled of her death in the cinema 5 minutes before ASM2 started, fuck you all.

I don't even know why I brother watching any of these movies anymore, since you all "superior" old time fans enjoy being killjoys more than anything else.
And cultural osmosis my ass, believe it or no, there's more entrainment culture out there and not everyone has been obsessed/has friends obsessed with superheroes.

"Superior" Spider-man is actually it's own, seperate thing oh man you are so dumb!

But lets put aside your inability to read covers, since that's obviously a thing you can't do. I'm sure no newspaper or review of the movie ever posted this:

Though no doubt it was everywhere else since, you know, PEOPLE TOLD YOU IN THE THEATER SINCE THEY DIDN'T THINK 1973 WAS SO SOON AGO THAT YOU COULDN'T MENTION THIS.

Re: Take a long hard suck of my hairy stinky cock.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-19 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
you people make me laugh

they're fucking COMIC BOOKS. not everyone reads comics! not everyone has read them or visited the wikipedia page! so, yes, there are a LOT of people who will have no idea that gwen stacy dies!

jesus christ, you fucking morons invest so much of your own self-worth in the fact that you can remember details from a work of fiction.

GOOD JOB, WOULD YOU LIKE A GOLD STAR.

A gold star! Well! Now you've gotten my ire sir. Clearly REVENGE is in order!

Let me ruin a few more experiences for you!

Rosebud was a sled.

Spike dies at the end of cowboy bebop.

Darth Vader is in fact Luke Skywalkers father.

In the sixth sense Bruce Willis is already dead and a ghost the kid can see.

Oh and, by the way. Jesus comes back in that "bible" thing you may have heard about.

I know Gwen Stacy eventually dies. I did not know it was in this movie. I do not personally care, but I know people who will. So yes, SPOILERS, for this movie.
