Oh now I can only imagine this scene ending with you both disappointed because the person who said it hasn't watched it and was referencing the comics :(

idk, I'm reading the whole Winter Soldier run now and the Hail Hydra thing isn't nearly as ubiquitous as it was in the movie. So if somebody came up and whispered Hail Hydra I'd assume they were talking about the movie.

If, however, they started talking about endless brainwashing and body possession, that is clearly the comics.

But Hydra has been in the comics for decades. I haven't read or watched Winter Soldier yet and I think Hail Hydra is in all the Hydra stories I've read in all comics, not only Cap ones. It's certainly deeply associated with the group and the characters joke about the fact that's all they say often. It's really not a movie thing.

Fair enough; I'm an extremely casual reader of Captain America. I'm not saying Hail Hydra doesn't appear, just that I guess I noticed it far more in the movie than in the comics, and I guess I managed to miss the issues where it's a joke in-universe.

D'awww...

If they're a huge Cap fan they would probably have seen the film by then though! ...Unless they couldn't for whatever reason, or just weren't interested in the first place...

Ah well. It'd still be amusing!

Yes it would. Sorry, didn't mean to be a spoilsport. It was just the first thing in my mind when I read your comment because I've read hundreds and hundreds of Hail Hydras all over Marvel comics but haven't managed to catch Winter Soldier yet.

Ooo, wow, that's unfortunate. :( Were you really excited about seeing it, or you didn't have any expectations? I hope you get to see it soon! (If you want.)

I was expecting it to be good (I did read some of the Winter Soldier comics before the film was released, but not a ton), but it still surprised me. I'm glad people are loving it so much.

I'm still excited about it, though I'm not that much of a Cap fan. I'm just broke and really busy and couldn't catch it in the movies. Thanks :) I hope I can catch Days of Future Past at least.

Real life can be a pain. Sorry you haven't had time for it! (I would say “Sorry you've completely spoiled in every way possible” but having read the comics (even though there are some differences) that might not be much of an issue for you.

The movie was still in theaters last week, but I guess it probably isn't everywhere. If only the DVD and Blu-ray's would come out already... Would be nice if it wouldn't take months to appear on Netflix, too.

Are you a bigger X-men fan? I haven't heard too much about DOFP and didn't read up on any of the comics for that one, so I'll be going in blind. Hopefully it exceeds expectations. (I just really didn't want time travel...)

(Anonymous) 2014-05-20 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, broad spoilers aren't an issue at all. I have managed not to be spoiled about any particular movies details so far. Here it's still in the theaters in the dubbed version, which I refuse to watch xD

Oh yes, I'm a much bigger X-Men fan, since I was a kid. I only got into the rest of Marvel much later. The original DOFP was just two issues long, by the way. I'm not a fan of time travel either, but in this case I'm glad for it because it's probably, hopefully a way to correct the movie continuity. Get the First Class people in, ignore the mess of X3, maybe we'll get a Cyclops again later on... I'm hopeful.

LOL. I can't imagine watching any Hollywood movies dubbed, I don't know why. I've watched anime dubbed, probably other cartoons too...but movies seem weird to me. I don't blame you on that one.

Two issues? Huh, that isn't long at all. I wonder if I can hunt that down. I admit to watching X-Men cartoons as a kid, but I didn't touch the comics. Wish I had, now...

It's funny because I don't mind time travel in itself, but for some reason when I heard X-Men was going to go there with the next film (even though it's far from shocking) it put me off and made me less interested. Maybe because I liked First Class so much that I wanted a more direct sequel, but I guess in ways DOFP will include some of that.

I hope it turns out just as good as the previous one, if not better. Wasn't a huge fan of the other X-Men movies, but they were fun in their own right; if this one isn't absolutely terrible I'll probably enjoy it.
