Re: School Dress Codes

Because some of us grew up in places where the school had no right to tell their students what they could and could not wear? Why should them? If anyone has that right it is the parents...

Or alternatively, because why the fuck would the school use resources on enforcing an idiotic rule instead of you know teaching?

Oddly enough I have nothing against school uniforms, in theory. It is probably impossible to introduce into a Norwegian school, because of the fact that the arguments used against the introducing of it are twice as many as those for.

Our PE teachers did care about our clothes, but that was just in a "you can't do PE in Jeans" way.

Yeah, you are welcome to join us! You'll have to learn Norwegian tho...

It isn't that cold*, we have a heat wave thingy right now so it's been 25C for a couple of days, and you can swim in the sea during Summer...

*For half the year, the other half yeah it is cold.

And most of us didn't. What's your point? Oh right, Norway's so advanced you don't understand that the rest of the world can't just catch up and be as enlightened as you, sorry.

The OP asked for an explanation to why people get so mad about dress codes, I offered one... At no place did I say Norway was better than any other country, nor did I say it was more enlightened, I said we don't have dress codes, and that we probably could not introduce school uniforms as the people speaking against them are louder than those for.

Heck Norway is not the only country on earth without dress codes in school, and I am sure some of those countries are not as you put it enlightened as Norway. Looking at the wiki article on school uniforms, it seems like about 1/3d of countries have them, and one would assume that countries where school uniforms don't exist don't have dress codes either.
