At least she's a BNF...? There are a lot of lazy chicken-nugget snarfing unemployed 30somethings who live at home who don't even have that going for them.

LOL, good point! Fandom hasn't exactly cornered the marked on "lazy chicken-nugget snarfing unemployed 30somethings who live at home" (which is a glorious turn of phrase, by the way - kudos!).

Being a BNF really isn't a thing to be proud of. You can't put it on your resume or anything like that.

"Not being able to put it on your resume" does not equal "not a thing to be proud of" (and doesn't just apply to being a BNF obviously).

I can't put 'being a kind and generous person' on my resume but that doesn't mean it's not a worthy thing to be. Being a BNF means, at least, that you are a prolific, popular, and reasonably talented author of fanfic - fanfic that probably makes a lot of other people very happy. Now, you could be an awful person on top of that, but if you aren't, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be proud of reaching a certain level of popularity in fandom if you aren't neglecting other parts of your life at the same time.

You can look at it as, "Wow, she's a slacker in a living situation with no future, and being a BNF doesn't help that at all."

But it could also be, "She has serious personal problems, but being a BNF is something she actually can do."

And some people can't even seem to do that.

But OP is right that she is definitely not a role model.
