I don't do short guys. Plus, I highly doubt he was able to bathe very often so he was probably dirty.

The aversion to bathing was a few centuries later, and was what led to the Black Death etc. Plus, Jerusalem had a massive aqueduct system, thanks to Roman plumbing, so there was plenty of water.

Additionally, hygiene was religiously important to the Jews of the time, especially when you get into the areas of Torah cleanliness (i.e. any kind of skin eruption or discharge, or touching a dead thing, requiring a bath, "and s/he shall be unclean until the evening" (post-bath) stuff from Leviticus.

Point taken. He still would have been short and probably wouldn't have had the best dental hygiene.

See below. We have worse dental hygiene than 1CE people would have because we eat basically empty calories and wall plaster (white sugar/white flour) LOL. Neither of which would have been available back then....

Can't do anything for you re: the height, though, sorry. ;)

Have any sources to back that up? They probably didn't clean their teeth or take care of them that much, even if their diet didn't contain all the shit we eat today. Either way, he probably would have had bad breath.

Not sure about cleaning their teeth, but the idea is based on indigenous tribes not getting cavities, or other really serious dental decay problems, until after they get onto a "Western" diet. There are also some theories that "natural" tooth cleaners like charcoal, or plants with saponins in them, etc., might have been used, by indigenous tribes, anyway.

There might be something to the theory, or it might not be even remotely plausible, IDK.

Huh. Thank you for indulging me! Sorry if I seemed hostile Id like some sources because you've got me genuinely interested in this. Off to google!

No worries. I didn't read any hostility from you. I think there may have been studies done on the Amazonian tribes (Yanomami?), hope that helps with your search, have fun!

YVW! Now I have to go and check if they made soap, LOL.

Regarding the tooth-cleaning, I have read that charcoal was used, ca. 19th century or so, not sure if it would have been employed any further back. There are plants that have saponins in them (where we get some modern soaps from), but whether or not they were used extensively, I'm not sure.

I dimly recall reading somewhere (can't think of the source offhand) that Romans stored urine and dried it out to make "homemade" bleach (i.e. ammonia) for laundry purposes. I don't recall if they had the ability/knowledge to make soap (lye+ashes) back then or not.
