I loved the Assassin series (all six of the ones about Fitz and the Fool), was meh about the ships, and could barely finish the first book of this one. It felt like she was recycling all the mediocre parts of the Assassin books.

Oh lord the Liveship Traders series was shite. I barely made it halfway through the first book and kept wondering which trite, untalented romance author had murdered Robin Hobb and stolen her identity.

Ugh, yes. There was so much rape, and tbh I kind of detested almost every single character there.

Oh thank god I'm not the only one who felt that way. Especially Kennit, yeuch. (It didn't help that I could only read his name as Kermit, which meant I both hated him and found him impossible to take seriously.)

The Liveship Traders books completely put me off reading any of her other books - should I give them a chance or are they more of the same?

My gut feeling is forget it. I've tried some of her other stuff, but ultimately nothing really grabbed me. I loved the Assassin and Fool trilogies, but that's it.

AYRT

That's pretty much what I suspected, tbh. I'll stick to authors whose work I think I'll enjoy, haha.

Her Rain Wilds series was disappointingly slow and boring, too. :(

Yeah, I gave up on those too... It's like she somehow hit a magical combo with Fitz and the Fool and that never came back.

Oh my god, I loved Fitz and the Fool! I miss the Fool in particular. This series and the Rain Wilds one bored and annoyed me. I didn't react as negatively to Liveship because of the Fool's cameo there, but now that I'm older I agree it had way too much rape in it. Yuck. But basically I feel the exact same way- I loved Fitz and the Fool and I felt like she never did anything better than that. :/
