I really don't feel like I can root for a relationship that's only possible because Regina killed his wife the first time through.

yup.

I was having the same sort of reaction at the end of the episode. We saw Marion ill, so at first I thought maybe she had a relapse and Robin was unable to help her get better... but then we find out, nope- her death was handed down by Regina herself.

I'm all for having the characters change, grow and find redemption, but there is *no way* Robin didn't know it was Regina that killed Marion. I might buy reluctant forgiveness, but deciding to jump in to a relationship? No way.

To be honest, I didn't see the hairstyle when Tink showed Regina her true love in the tavern, and I thought it was a Red Herring the first time they showed Robing with the tattoo- on the grounds that it looks like an emblem (for King Richard or similar?) that many people might have.

"but there is *no way* Robin didn't know it was Regina that killed Marion"

Can you explain, please? I keep seeing this argument.

I don't get that argument either...Marian said she withheld her name to keep her family safe. She died anonymously.

At the beginning of the finale, we see Emma and Hook witness Regina terrorizing a village in her quest for Snow. She tells them that anyone who even thinks about helping Snow White will be punished, etc. etc. To show that she means business, she *very publicly* apprehends Marion, taking her away to be imprisoned and eventually killed. The whole point of this action was to spread the word that she would make good on her threat. She wanted people to know about it.

It follows that when Marion was executed, there were probably also many witnesses. Again, this was something she wanted to broadcast. Even if she didn't (for some reason) we still have the village full of people who saw her take Marion away, and once Marion was dead it wouldn't be hard to know who was responsible.

If Robin even made the slightest inquiry about Marion's fate, he would know who took her, why, and what happened.

It doesn't really jive with his line about her death being his fault (unless he wasn't around at the time she was taken, or he failed to rescue her in time) but then, that whole conversation doesn't make a lot of sense if in the back of his mind he's thinking, "Oh yeah, it was you that killed her, wasn't it?".

I think the only canon/prospective canon relationship that I'm still rooting for at this stage is Snow/Charming, because they're adorable and awesome and more-or-less functional. Pretty much every other major relationship on the show has something ugly in its history (Rumple/Belle, Hook/Emma, Regina/Robin). Possibly because most of them involve reformed/semi-reformed/trying-to-reform villains, but still.

Yeah I don't like the majority of the ships in the show because they always seem to end up dragging one character down, especially since they can't decide whether or not they really want to reform the villains and keep having them go back to their old ways. Which wouldn't be a problem but then I end up wondering things like "Why would Belle deal with this? Why does she even believe Rumple is a good person?"

I love a good villain but OUAT needs to stop giving them true loves, I wouldn't mind some romances that the show acknowledges are screwed up, but love? Nah.

I hate that the writers changed Marian's ending to have Regina be the one who killed her. There was no reason to do that and it is going to make the eventual Robin/Regina endgame awkward. But I still ship. They were just too adorable.

They didn't change Marian's ending at all. Her illness was earlier in the series before she had Roland. All we knew is that she was dead. Now we know that Regina was the one who killed her. Didn't come as much of a surprise tho.

They changed in the sense that they didn't originally plan for Regina to be the one to kill Marian. It works with the timeline in-story, but I still think it was a really stupid writing decision.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-23 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
got a source for this? i dont recall seeing anyone even mention marians cause of death until the last ep.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-23 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm also wondering - it's the first I've heard of this.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-23 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. And I can't be on Regina's side against Emma or root Regina on for bitching Emma out for not thinking of consequences. She killed Marion because she helped Snow. STFU Regina.

[personal profile] thezmage 2014-05-23 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this especially. "You mean like the consequences of putting your lover's wife to death?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-23 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. If they have Emma all guilt-ridden and apologetic for "ruining Regina's life" next season, I am not going to be happy. I don't expect Regina to be dancing in the streets over Marion's return, but I would like her to realize that Emma saved her from murdering the wife and mother of two people she claims to care about.
