depression.

it's mild enough that i don't need medication but that doesn't mean i don't have it.

also, dyslexia.

I hate how dismissive people are of the things that are "all in my head". My mental illnesses are very physical. Sometimes I don't know if my depression or fibromyalgia is causing the most fatigue and the list of physical reactions that my anxiety causes is staggering. But sure, it's all in my head. :(

I hate the way people use that phrase. Yes, it's all in my head. That's ... that's literally where it is. Shall we go around telling people with brain cancer that that's all in their heads, too?

I agree. Sometimes I really hate the distinction between mental illness versus physical illness too. Obviously it's helpful to acknowledge the ones that come from the brain but can we all remember that the brain is a physical part of the body just like the heart or pancreas?

I'm going to use this analogy now. Yes. Good.

I certainly know clinical depression is all in people's heads - yes, something in the head has a chemical imbalance that makes people depressed, so they take medication for it!

I'm sorry to hear that. Some people can be really insensitive at times.

EVERYONE GETS DEPRESSION. EVERYONE

You "woke up on the wrong side of the bed"? You have depression!

You're a bit down? You have depression!

Any time you have a period of negative feelings, sadness, etc, your have depression!

The difference is some people need medication because they have a biological problem that makes them depressed more often than most people. That's clinical depression.

Normal depression does not need medication, but it still happens.

(My mother had this argument with my father, who happens to react badly to the suggestion he has any sort of psychiatric condition - especially after having one wife (Mum) with bipolar, and another with schizophrenia.)
