6- Omg I love Zachary's shirt.

14- Do you happen to ship House/Cuddy? The Huddy shippers hate on Cameron just as much.

19- Fiona becoming an ogre is one of the number one reasons I hate that movie, and I do hate it. It's not me being shallow. It's just that how does the message of true beauty being within or whatever that the movie is supposed to convey (they called it their response to Beauty and the Beast) if Fiona has to become ugly to be with the ugly guy? She should have just stayed the person she was born as. Dreamworks fails for that decision. It was the icing on Shrek's crap covered cake. I hate the ending of Grease for almost the same reason.

38- Ohmygod that picture is SO adorable. *squeezes*

Sounds a little shallow to me. And making Shrek handsome would have made the movie feel like a chiche. By making an ending like that, maybe there is something to be said about how true beauty works.

But the other person said nothing about Shrek having to change. Both he and Fiona could have stayed the way they were and still be together, I think, was more the point.

Still, I think the movie made a good point about having Fiona change. It made it feel more effective then "oh Fiona doesn't have to change but Shrek is still an ogre and gets to nail hot redheads lol"

I thought the first one was brilliant, in any case. 2 was amusing and haven't seen 3.

As opposed to "Shrek's an ogre so he has to nail an ogre chick even though he fell in love with the redhead and she with him"? Why did Fiona have to change her looks, if she loved him just as well as a human? If he would love her either way, what did her change even signify? I mean, it's all up to interpretations, and I personally like the Shrek franchise, but that's one way of looking at it that won't satisfy people.

That's implying that Shrek felt Fiona was ugly in ogre form. Which he didn't.

You can't take the ending at face value. The point of the change was to show that beauty isn't skin deep.

Re: 19

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Which I feel it didn't, because before Fiona could end up with him she had to become something considered traditionally unattractive as well.

Re: 19

(Anonymous) 2007-11-25 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No. That's implying that no one who knows Shrek would think he would find Fiona ugly in any form. The film implied that Fiona might think Shrek would find her ugly as an ogre -- when she should have known he wouldn't.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say now, since it's already been established that everyone knows the point of the entire film is to celebrate inner beauty -- we're talking now about whether or not it was able to do that successfully. I still maintain that having Shrek change his attitude and Fiona change her looks is an odd way of going about that, if looks weren't supposed to matter to begin with.

I guess I see your point, but at the same time I don't really understand.

But hey, arguing about it isn't going to get us anywhere.

Re: 19

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't want Shrek to become handsome. I wanted her to stay human and him to remain an ogre. Fiona staying who she was and Shrek staying who he is is shallow? I think the ending they chose is shallow. I don't see how an ending where a beautiful princess and an ugly ogre end up together could be shallow. That would defy fairy-tale norms and keep the message that true beauty is within. Having them both be ugly doesn't give a good message at all. It just says that Fiona can't be with Shrek unless she's ugly as well. *shrug*

::headscratch:: Have you read many fairytales? Cause there's TONS of them that end up that way--f'ex, a Chinese fairytale in which a horribly ugly scholar is given a beautiful wife, much to her displeasure, until the ugly scholar explains that before he was born, he saw the woman whom he was destined to end up marrying. She was the horrifically ugly one, and the scholar was so disgusted he asked the gods to give him all her ugliness and make her beautiful instead.

Maybe it's just me, but fairytales of that ilk leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: 19

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes I think I've read that one.

...But Shrek isn't like that at all. Except for the aesthetics of the eventual relationship, I see no similarity. Fiona wouldn't be disgusted with Shrek being an ogre and vice versa and that would be the point. How does Fiona changing into someone unattractive (against her will I might add) at all convey the message that true beauty is within? I don't even see how this is a relatable comparison? The two stories are nothing alike and neither is their message.

The humor redeemed the ending of the movie for me, but God, I hear you on Grease.
