Rivers of London, an urban fantasy book series about a magic police division, is a bit like this, too. And it has a badass black main hero.
Then, um. Inspector Morse?? Both the novels and the TV series; the novels may even be more intense.
I could do with some recs, too. *sighs*
Re: What type of character do you always like?
The Monstrumologist series off the top of my mind fits this relationship dynamic too. Plus, one of the characters is undoubtedly inspired by Sherlock Holmes/Joseph Bell and it takes place in late 19th century.
Re: What type of character do you always like?
WHAT. How come I never knew of it before?! This sounds like something I would eat with a spoon. Thank you so very, very much.
and haha great my evil plan is succeedingRe: What type of character do you always like?
Anyway, just to pimp The Monstrumologist, which I'm very fond of, it's actually a YA series and is about a 12-year-old orphan who is taken in by a doctor, who is a sort of monster hunter, and he should be the boy's mentor, but really sucks at it, but still they grow really co-dependent while at the same time there are the monsters and mysteries ... It's awesome, imo.
So what's the name of the first book in the Murder Rooms?
edit Never mind, I've found it on Amazon.
Re: What type of character do you always like?
(It's going to be my first dive into YA literature, too).
Re: What type of character do you always like?
look
BTW, ever since reading John Green, I'm very skeptical about whether I can personally get anything from reading YA, but this isn't a typical YA book and as of now it's being marketed to adults too.
Re: What type of character do you always like?
Yeah, from what I've read/heard I concluded I'd never be much of a fan of this sort of stuff, but to be honest idc what genre something is when it sounds that awesome.

Re: What type of character do you always like?
Yeah, I get this, I'm also the sort of person who goes to especially buy a book even after I've already read it in pdf downloaded from some Russian website just to show my support to the author ;)
Re: What type of character do you always like?
But that was quite a while ago, so IDK how it is now. Good luck! And thank you once again.
Re: What type of character do you always like?
Thanks, too, and I'll be curious to know if you like the book (or like it enough to criticize it) ;)
Re: What type of character do you always like?
I'd appreciate some comments re:The Patient's Eyes, too, should you have any.
