People interpret characters differently. I give a fic a shot if I see the author is seriously trying to go somewhere with it and they keep the characterization consistent. But if it's one of those sugar rush AU's where you know they're not trying, bleh, I close it and move on.

There's a huge difference between a different interpretation and having the entire cast of say, Criminal Minds, all the same age in the same high school acting like 14 year old girls.
