I'm not saying this is definitely the case, but it's not impossible that your fic is impeccably researched but just not a good story. I've read plenty of fic by authors who obviously knew the canon well, but whose plots were boring and overdone or whose dialogue was flat or etc. Nothing to make me cringe, but nothing to get excited about, either.

This is a problem I have with my own fic. It tends to be 10000 obscure canon references scrupulously researched, plus angst, plus no plot.

I read plenty of historical fiction and yes, there's stories where there's poor research + bad writing, good research + fantastic writing... but there's also stories where the research might not be all there, but the writing is. Or the time period has been meticulously researched, but the story itself doesn't work - the writing's not there.
