I don't mind acting "out of character" too much because character interpretations are quite subjective and we don't necessarily know how a certain character would act in a different situation.

But I'm horrified about how poorly researched so many fics are, and how many blatantly ignore or don't check canon facts. It's especially bad in anime fandoms. Like less than 10% of fanfics I come across that use honourifics use them correctly, and by correctly I just mean characters refers to other characters the way they do in canon. Like that doesn't even require knowledge of Japanese, it just requires you to watch the god damn show but apparently even that is beyond most of them.
