I thought it was an asexual thing? I thought it's what they used for relationships that were romantic but not sexual. And that the queer isn't anything to do with queer as in gay, but the original meaning, strange/unusual/whatever, because non-sexual romantic relationships are definitely considered unusual/weird (or at least uncommon).

I don't think it's necessarily a horrible thing for asexual people to want a word for their relationships. I'm a lesbian and sometimes ID as queer but if people want to use the word in a different context with its original meaning it doesn't bother me.
